Celebrate this Mother's Day by baking tribal treats that are fun to eat with Ethnic Edibles™, a unique set of cookie cutters based upon traditional shapes and symbols found in African culture. Heather McCartney (no relation to Paul) is the designer and owner of Ethnic Edibles, LLC, and a Bronx-based company that is introducing the cookies and cutters - (for cookies with culture) - to the marketplace. Ethnic Edibles™ are a delicious way to celebrate African heritage and adds a cultural twist to any occasion.

Ms. McCartney will demonstrate the ease of cookie decorating on Saturday, May 9, 1999 at That Old Black Magic, 163 Mamaroneck Ave., White Plains, New York from 2-4 PM. As a dance educator for the last seventeen years, Ms. McCartney proclaims she is not a baker. However, the cutters and a few creative strokes can turn bland into bold, making it easy for bakers and non-bakers to enjoy. The kit includes chocolate cookie mix, recipes, an icing bag, and easy-to-follow illustrations, plus an African creation story, proverbs, and a history of each cutter. The cutters are available in the shapes of Africa, a mask, a Djembe drum and a South Africxan Ndebele doll.

Ms. McCartney developed Ethnic Edibles™ after returning from a recent trip to South Africa and being inspired by the arts and culture of the country and continent. She states: "Cookie dough proved to be the ideal medium for me to replicate the African artwork I admired. Besides, if I made a mistake, I could just eat it anyway."
