Heather McCartney is the designer and
developer of Ethnic Edibles™, the African-inspired cookie cutter set.
After being captivated with the decorative and tribal arts of African culture,
she decided to replicate them in a fun and educational way.
As an avid traveler with a passion for
the arts, Ms. McCartney made her first journey to the African continent in 1997.
It was in South Africa that she learned more about the tribal arts of the
Ndebele and Zulu nations. Eager to share her enthusiasm with others, she baked a
batch of ginger cookies with the facial demarcations based upon the many masks
and dolls she saw.
The cultural cookies captured the
attention of families, educators, bakers and retailers, and were soon in demand.
This interest propelled her to conduct additional research on traditional
symbols of African culture and thus Ethnic Edibles™ was born.
Coquí
Cookies is her newest line of cutters that celebrate the rich heritage of
Puerto Rican culture from the indigenous Taíno
tribe to the beloved coquí
frog.
Ethnic Edibles, LLC has
been featured in local and national media as a promising new enterprise. Heather frequently speaks
about entrepreneurship and conducts cookie workshops. Ms. McCartney is
currently developing a new line of cutters and has expanded her business to include
cookie catering.
